So the news is out - Xbox 360 will get a HD DVD drive for the holidays for less than $200! That's a pretty cool price tag for a HD DVD drive if you look around what the "real" players cost. Not only that, MS also announced there will be a software patch for Xbox 360 which boosts the device's image output to full 1080p! How they do that is beyond me, but it puts them on par with Sony's yet-to-be-seen PS3's capabilities... Yay!
The HD DVD drive is going to launch in Japan first for about $170 USD, with hopefully US following soon after. There won't be HDMI output so this thing isn't totally a state of the art cinema box but whatever, at least the price is right....
Kinda funny to say about a company who is selling more units than the competitors combined and just keeps being limited only by their ability to manufacture quickly enough... They're currently the number one in home consoles as well as handhelds and there seems to be nothing MS or Sony can do about it.
